Before people evaluate your ideas,
they’re already reading how you show up.
The way you enter the room.
The way you greet people.
The energy you bring before you even start speaking.
Most people walk in too fast because adrenaline speeds them up.
Instead:
- walk in at a controlled pace
- keep your shoulders relaxed
- take in the room before speaking
This immediately changes how you are perceived.
A calm entrance (without rushing), a genuine smile, and simple eye contact already begin to create connection and trust.
And under pressure, most people:
• start speaking too quickly
• try to “get into it” fast
• fill every bit of silence
Which often creates the opposite effect:
less clarity, less presence, less impact.
A small shift I often work on:
Enter slightly slower than feels natural.
Take in the room before you begin.
Finish your first sentence fully.
Allow a brief pause before continuing.
It doesn’t just change how others perceive you.
It changes how you settle into the moment yourself.
