Do we really need to “fit into the box” to do great work?

Systems love order: neat profiles, clear criteria, predictable paths. But teams don’t thrive because everyone looks the same on paper. They thrive because someone dares to be different. I joined a Big4 at 40 with an artistic approach to life, always looking for fun, colour, and curiosity in everything I did. Sometimes I felt like the office hippie, who didn't know Excel very well but who brought a lot of ideas to the table and inspired quite a few people along the way ;). Seven years later, I’m certain of one thing: the exchange went both ways. I grew from the structure, they grew from the spark and the blend made us all better.

“If everyone is thinking alike, then no one is thinking.” - Benjamin Franklin

So here’s the real question:

-Is your company open to people who don’t fit the box - because of their story, their style, their health condition, or their past experiences?

-Does your recruitment process truly give them a chance?

Difference isn’t a disruption. It's an unrealised value waiting for a door to open.
