Why did this older man with a strong Italian accent stole my heart and why his talk inspired millions of people worldwide and it was chosen one of the best Ted Talks in a history?
First and perhaps the most important, because he talks about complex things in a simple and clear manner. He doesn’t use any jargon, unnecessary numbers, or statistics. Instead, he takes us on a trip to Zambia and shares a hilarious story from his life (that turned out to be a comedy of mistakes) and that explains more than 100 reports written by economists. In addition, he is not afraid to laugh at himself, his imperfections, age, ignorance and incompetence. He is authentic and we believe in what he says. His gestures and body language perfectly reinforce his message. There is no place for acting, learned gestures or tools to strengthen the message. This is a perfect example that on stage it is enough to be yourself. There is no need to hide your imperfections behind masks. Only in this way will people believe what we want to convey. And only in this way will they identify with you as a human being.
